B.B. Lyngdoh

Brington Buhai Lyngdoh ( born February 2, 1922 Laitlyngkot village, Assam, † 27 October 2003 in Shillong, Meghalaya ) is an Indian politician who was Chief Minister of Meghalaya four times.

Life

Lyngdoh was involved already in the political movement that in 1970 reached the formation of the Autonomous Region in 1972, and the separated state of Assam Meghalaya. In the first of Williamson A. Sangma formed on April 2, 1970 Government of the Autonomous Region, he was finance minister. Over his thirty year political career he was considered one of the most striking and most astute politicians of the state and the entire north-eastern region of India.

In 1979 he entered into an agreement with Sangma that the cleavage of the All People's Hill Leaders Conference ( APHLC ) and to form a coalition with the Indian National Congress ( INC) led. Zugleichergab from the agreement of the two politicians the control of a division of the office of the Chief Minister, which led to Lyngdoh on May 7, first time in 1979 even Chief Minister of Meghalaya was until May 6, 1981 and Sangma this office in connection between May 7, 1981 and March 2, 1983 for the second time took office. This successful agreement without formal agreement went as a gentlemen's agreement in the political circles in India and was later tried in Uttar Pradesh. After the agreement Lyngdoh was from 2nd March to April 1, 1983 once again Chief Minister before Sangma took office again.

On March 26, 1990 Lyngdoh was, now as chairman of Hill Peoples Union ( HPU ), in place of Purno Agitok Sangma for the third time Chief Minister of the state, and held this office until 10 October 1991. This was followed by the exercise of governmental power as part of the so-called President's rule.

In 1998 he became chairman of the Union Democtratic Party (UDP ) and after the elections to the Legislative Assembly as the successor of Salseng C. Marak on 10 March 1998 for the fourth time Chief Minister of Meghalaya. This time he remained until his replacement by Evansius Kek Mawlong on 7 March 2000 in office.

Lyngdoh, who later became a member of the Meghalaya Democratic Party ( MDP) has died from the effects of pneumonia.
