BAAL novo

BAAL novo - theater across borders is an intercultural theater based in Offenburg and Strasbourg. BAAL is not only for bathing alsace ( German: Elsass ), but is also an allusion to the Babylonian deity Baal, which has made the reception a transformation from Dionysus to Beelzebub.

The association

As a non-profit trust BAAL novo aims to continue with his artistic productions bring together the people from the regions of Alsace and Baden, and thus to contribute to the European nations. In addition to the cross-border work, BAAL novo uses the two countries for the improvement of intercultural exchange between Germans, French and migrants. It follows an increasing cooperation with theaters in other European countries.

The theater of frontier workers and bridge builders was established in 2005. Is headed BAAL novo by the director and author Edzard Schopp man. The ensemble has since grown beyond its German and French origins. Thus, the ensemble includes not only artists from Germany and France, but also from Brazil, Turkey, Palestine and Morocco. Based on this international and intercultural guiding principle provides BAAL novo plays for children, adolescents and adults.

The productions

Every year brings out BAAL novo two to three productions, including at least a production for children and young people, which includes accompanying educational theater support is offered. All BAAL novo productions dealing with intercultural issues, almost all pieces are designed to be multilingual. In the early years all the work of BAAL novo were bilingual, German - French. Since 2007 BAAL novo also produces German -Turkish pieces that deal with issues such as migration and religion.

BAAL novo guest appearances nationwide in Germany and France to the arts centers and schools on both sides of the Rhine.

Prizes and awards

  • Jihad mon amour was awarded the German - Dutch Children and Youth Drama Award.
  • Together with Jörg Menke - Peitzmeyer got BAAL 2010, a project grant from the State of Baden- Württemberg for the property development " Türkiye'ye Hos Geldiniz - Welcome to Turkey "
