Baburao Painter

Baburao Painter (real name: Baburao Krishnarao Mestri; born June 3, 1890 in Kolhapur, Kolhapur, † January 16, 1954 ) was an Indian film director.

Life

Between 1910 and 1916 he was one of the leading painters stage on West Indian theaters. Hence its name " Painter" comes from. After Raja Harishchandra DG Phalces film he was to film enthusiasts and founded in 1918, the Maharashtra Film Company from 1929 forerunner of the Prabhat Film Company before the advent of sound film in India.

Baburao's first feature film was Sairandri (1920 ), which was heavily censored, but attracted attention from critics and audiences. He wrote his own screenplays and introduced the three-dimensional space instead of stage decoration in the Indian film. 1921/22, he published the first Indian program books to films and himself designed the movie posters.

After the commercially successful film Sinhagad (1923 ) to Baburao Painter also tried to realistic subjects, but did so with the audience not good - instead of teaching they wanted entertainment.

With advent of the talkies to Baburao Painter again turned to the visual arts of painting and sculpture, and led only sporadically Director.
