Baby Boom - A Fine Mess ( Original Title: Baby Boom ) is an American comedy film directed by Charles Shyer from the year 1987.

Action

J. C. Wiatt is a successful businesswoman who is married literally with her job. She lives with the investment banker Steven in a shared apartment in New York. Just as she should be appointed to co-owner of her company, her life is turned completely upside down: you get custody of little Elizabeth Wiatt, the daughter of distant relatives, assigned, died in a crash.

Since it can absolutely nothing to do with a baby, JC tries to make adopt Elizabeth. But as the potential parents want to take the baby, she decides to keep Elisabeth yet. When her boyfriend Steven learns thereof, he leaves her. In addition, they increasingly neglected their job, so that a younger colleague gradually runs her rank. Thereupon, JC decides to terminate her job. She buys a two hundred year old property with some farm animals, land and private lake in Vermont and moved with Elizabeth there. J. C. but is already briefly that the country life can be more difficult than they had imagined. So need their new home some costly repairs that they can not afford and they ultimately missed the big city and their work. C. also Jeff's charm gradually falls in love with him.

Despite the phenomenal success of their small business, want JC still back to New York, so her just the call from her old boss, Fritz right. He wants behalf of a client, "Food Chain " (food chain), buy up JC's company. He submits her a very lucrative offer, what they do on the one hand a millionaire, would otherwise bring them back to their beloved business. But J. C. rejects the offer because she realizes that her priorities have changed now and they do not want to give up her new life with Elizabeth in Vermont.

The film ends with J. C. Jeff after their return from New York to notify its decision and agreed to meet him for the evening. As J. C. home arrives, Elizabeth speaks it for the first time with "Mama".

Criticism

The lexicon of international film wrote that the film was a " knitted by simple patterns shallow comedy," would awaken the sympathy for a " family idyll ," were not working in the women.

Awards

Diane Keaton and the film for Best Picture - Comedy or Musical were nominated in 1988 for a Golden Globe Award. Pam Dixon was nominated in 1988 for the casting for the Artios the Casting Society of America.

Background

The film was shot in New York City, Los Angeles and various locations of Vermont. It had its world premiere on September 17 at the 1987 Toronto Film Festival. The film played in theaters in the USA about a 26.7 million U.S. dollars.
