Song text description

The text is about a first date with a girl, which is picked up in the evening at about seven forty-five clock; it should not be too late and will be asked for some confidence. Walk together in the moonlight, and are happy about their new love that they share.

In particular, repeatedly repeating passages " Rock it baby" and "We got to get together" allude to the cozy intimacy and physical love of a young couple, although less significantly than in Stir It Up.

Music Description

The song begins with a short solo of the Hammond organ and the electric bass guitar, softly accompanied by the drums and the rhythm guitar. With the onset of Marley's vocal part is added also the lead guitar and plays the typical offbeat, while the drums goes into the classic One Drop style. The first stanza is accompanied by Tosh and Wailer in the background, at the " Rock it baby" Ask the women's voices are added. A short bridge in F sharp minor leads to the repetition of the first stanza. A guitar solo leads again through the bridge until you return to the " Rock it baby" Make the song accompany you until the end.

The lead guitar reminded by their schrummenden background riffs on typical Hawaiian sounds and thus gives the whole song a Hawaiian touch. Since Baby We've Got a Date was written in the key of A major, the same as Stir It Up, the song can be seen as a prelude to Stir It Up, which became one of the most known songs by Marley. Together with Stir It Up Baby We've Got a Date is the soft part of the otherwise traversed by militant and socially critical songs album Catch a Fire.
