Parts of the system are still uncertain. The Oscillospiraceae family is not mentioned in Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology, a reference work of phylogenetic systematics of prokaryotes. The genus incertae sedis Oscillospira is run as (not sure assigned ).

Among the bacilli are found bacteria that are used in the food processing and some pathogens. Important representatives include, among others, the genera Bacillus, Lactococcus, Streptococcus and Listeria.

In English, the term " Bacilli " stands not only for the taxon, but also for the morphological type of rod-shaped bacteria in general.
