Backåkra

Backåkra is a courtyard between the beach of Löderup and Sandhammaren in the municipality of Ystad in the Swedish province of Skåne. It is located in a heath and woodland below which sand dunes stretch, which are delineated on the land side by a pine forest.

Backåkra goes back to a homestead. In 1957, the farm was bought by the then UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjöld in order to use it as a summer residence, and subsequently renovated. The Swedish hiking association Svenska Turistföreningen took over the farm after the death of Hammarskjöld in 1961 and set up a museum, shows the remains of his work at the UN. The south wing of the courtyard serves as the summer residence of the members of the Swedish Academy.
