The state election in Baden- Württemberg in 2001 was on March 25, place parallel to the state election in Rhineland- Palatinate. It led to a strengthening of the two major political parties, especially the SPD, whereas FDP / DVP and Alliance 90/The Greens lost votes and the Republicans failed to re-entry into the state parliament after nine years of parliamentary membership.

Starting position
