Badge for Long Voyage

The badge for Great ride was a non-governmental award of the National People's Army of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was introduced on 27 May 1981 command number 43/81 by the Minister of National Defence Heinz Hoffmann for the People's Navy.

Award conditions

The badge could get all members of the People's Navy, who had traveled in relation to special work or a certain number of miles on individual ship types. Furthermore, it also received the People's Navy civilian employees and, in exceptional cases, members of foreign fleets in fulfillment of the award conditions.

Stylish look and manner

The pentagonal badge is 45 mm high, 38 mm wide and is made of non-ferrous metal. It shows on its face at the top of the flag of the People's Navy and below the black inscription FOR GREAT RIDE on golden ground. Central is located against a dark blue background a moving warship left the People's Navy in gold version. Under this there are turquoise stylized waves and the symbol of the globe with a compass rose in the center shown. The conclusion and also the top of the badge is made from an anchor, which turns into an anchor chain left and right. This also forms the same time the outer boundary of the badge to the lettering. The whole badge was coated with polyester resin. The reverse shows a horizontal needle soldered with counter hooks for attaching to the sailor suit, where it was to be worn on the upper right side below the classification badge.
