Badminton Association of Indonesia

The Persatuan Bulutangkis Seluruh Indonesia ( PBSI ) (translated: All- Indonesian Badminton Association ) is the supreme national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in Indonesia. The association was founded on 5 May 1951.

History

Badminton itself was played in Indonesia already during the colonial period from the late 1920s. Was introduced the sport primarily by residents of neighboring Singapore. The National Federation itself was founded six years after the country's independence in 1951. The PBSI in 1959 was a founding member of the continental governing body Badminton Asia Confederation, then known as the Asian Badminton Confederation, and immediately later also a member of the Badminton World Federation, at that time still under the name International Badminton Federation corporate name. Badminton was developed in the early years of the Association quickly as the national sport of the country and Indonesia was in the 1970s and 1980s, the most powerful nation in this sport. Mid-1980s had been ceded this supremacy to China.
