Badminton New Zealand

Badminton New Zealand is the top national administrative organization in the sport of badminton in New Zealand. The association was founded in 1927 as the New Zealand Badminton Federation.

History

Badminton was played shortly after 1900 in New Zealand for the first time and it was also the first club founded in Auckland BC. However, it took until 1927 before the first New Zealand Open championship and the New Zealand Badminton Federation ( NZBF ) was launched in the same year to life. Became the first president of the New Zealand Open titlist Archdeacon Creed Meredith. In Wellington the first club was founded by Jack Marshall, who later became prime minister of the country. 1934 was known as the New Zealand Badminton Federation founding member of the Badminton World Federation, at that time as International Badminton Federation. The New Zealand Badminton Federation was also a member of the continental governing body Badminton Oceania. Beginning of the new millennium, the association was renamed Badminton New Zealand.
