Baeyer strain theory

As Baeyer strain, also Baeyer- ring strain or Baeyer ring strain and the like, refers to the ring strain in alicyclic compounds. The strain energy in the six-membered ring is by definition equal to 0, the energy can be calculated from the deviation from the ideal tetrahedral angle in cyclohexane derived. In general, the following stability series applies: 6 -, 5 -, 3 -, 4 - ring.

The Baeyer strain is named after the Nobel laureate Adolf von Baeyer.
