Baga (grape)

Baga is a red grape that is grown primarily in the Bairrada in Portugal, where it is represented more than 90% of total production. In the 1990s, an area under vines of 11,859 hectares was charged.

The grape is thick- and small, matures late and has a high acid content. Therefore, there is the danger of immaturity and the rot in the rain. Baga is processed into characteristic table wines, but also serves as a basis for solid, tannic wines with decades of aging potential.

Baga is like most varieties monoecious. Einhäusigkeit referred to in seed plants, the presence of female and male flowers on a plant. When the wine-growing economic disadvantage is avoided to have no income supplying male plants grow.

Ethnicity: autochthonous variety from Portugal
