Bagnolet

Bagnolet is a French town with 34 513 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011 ) in the department of Seine- Saint- Denis. It is bordered to the east of the capital, Paris.

Its inhabitants call themselves Bagnoletais.

History

On January 1, 1860, the city of Paris was enlarged by the neighboring communities were annexed. A part of the community Bagnolet Paris was incorporated. At the same time the community Charonne was dissolved and divided between Paris, Bagnolet and Montreuil. Bagnolet received a small part of the territory of Charonne.

Economy

Bagnolet is the headquarters of the accumulator specialists Juice SA.

Traffic

As a border town to Paris Bagnolet is connected to the Boulevard périphérique. The Autoroute A3, branches off from the Périphérique and cuts Bagnolet. The city is also connected by the Gallieni station to the metro network of Paris. The Paris Gallieni bus station is located on the territory of the municipality Bagnolet.

The community Bagnolet maintains five city partnerships with the following towns:

  • Germany Oranienburg, Germany, since 1964
  • Palestine National Authority Chatila Palestinian refugee camps in Beirut, Lebanon, in 2002
  • Massala Mali, Mali, since 2003
  • Algeria Akbou, in Kabylia, Algeria, since 2006

A close partnership also connects the community with Le Robert on the island of Martinique.
