Not much is known about D.Arnaldo, maybe he was Frankish, but rather of Basque descent, probably from Bayonne. He was the founder of the noble family of Bayãos, whence was derived the present name of locality. Perhaps the local name derives also from an originally Latin word for brown - yellow color scheme, baio, from which prior to the arrival of the Arabs, the place name Baian was, and then later turn caused the naming of the nobility. D.Arnaldos great-great grandson was Egas Moniz educator as the first Portuguese King D.Afonso Henriques.
