History

The name probably derives from the Latin baliolum Baillet, possibly also derived from the Celtic bali ( Avenue of the shadow ).

First traces of settlement date from the 5th century BC. For the first time the city was mentioned in a letter from the Abbey of Saint -Denis in the year 832. The fiefdom in the Middle Ages in the possession of the Counts d' O, developed around its feudal castle before it fell to the county Guise. Area gains took place during the Wars of Religion. The Duke of Choiseul - Praslin was suitable to the village in the 19th century. The village was looted during the Franco-German War of 1870 /71. The castle and the adjacent park were purchased and remodeled in 1937 by the Union fraternelle of Métallurgistes de la région parisienne (CGT ). Until 1972, used as a holiday center, the object is sold ( Nationale de Prévoyance of Ouvrier du Bâtiment Caisse ) to the CNPO. Currently (2010) the recreation center is broke unused.
