Baiocco

Baiocchi (also Bajocco, plural Baiocchi or Bajocchi ) is a historical coin of the Papal States. The origin of the name is disputed. He first appeared in 1420 in Sulmona and Sora, where he refers to the silver Bolognini. Of them, the name was transferred about 1450 to the papal Bolognini. From 1726 to 1870 the Baiocchi was coined as copper fractional currency; around 1800 partly in huge quantities. The value of 12 g of heavy copper coin was 1/100 Scudo. During the Roman Republic of 1849, a 3 Baiocchi coin was in circulation.
