Baishan Dam

BW

The Baishan Dam (白山 水库(桦甸), translated as " dam in the White Mountains ") is a dam with an arch-gravity dam on a tributary ( Second Songhua Jiang) of the Songhua Jiang at Huadian, Jilin Province in China. The purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power generation and flood control. The dam supplies five turbines and generators in two power houses with an installed capacity of 1500 MW. Moreover, it can also control a flood discharge of 19,100 m³ / s. In addition, it is possible to use them as pumped storage power plant with 300 MW.

Construction

The construction of the dam began in May 1975, the reservoir began on 16 September 1982 to fill and the end of 1984 were the first three generators operational ( Phase I). Another two generators of the second phase of the project went into operation in 1992. The reservoir flooded an area of 17.67 km ² and approximately 10,300 people were resettled.

In March 2000, a feasibility study was made for a pumped storage plant. In August 2002, began the construction of two 150 MW pump turbines and in July 2006 they were ready.

Structures

The Baishan dam is 149.5 m high and 677.5 m long arch-gravity dam of 1.663 million cubic meters of concrete. The barrage on a 6500 m³ million large reservoir from which 3540 million cubic meters of active storage space or " work space " and 950 million cubic meters of flood control space. The spillway consists of four 12 mx 13 m large overflows and three 6 mx 7 m discharge openings at mid-height. All passages together can dissipate a planned design water quantity of 19,100 m³ / sec, respectively the second design case 26,200 m³ / s and maximum even 32,200 m³ / s

The power plant consists of three power houses. The first built is located in the underground and contains 3 x 300 MW Francis turbines and generators, while the second on the left bank just below stands and 2 x 300 MW turbines and generators has. The third part of the hydropower plant consists of 2 x 150 MW pump turbines. The Baishan Reservoir serves as the upper reservoir and the reservoir of Hongshi Dam further downstream than the lower basin.

The hydraulic height is 110 m; are produced per year in 2040 GWh of energy.

The dam is named (White Mountains ) to the Baekdu Mountains and is near the town of Baishan.
