Băiuț

Baiut (Hungarian Erzsébetbánya ) is a town in Maramureş County in the north- western Romania. Special recognition has become the place as a mining settlement ( gold, silver, zinc, lead and copper ).

History

1776 here a new iron mine was opened. The 1778 went into operation in furnaces have been installed around 1811 Strambu - Baiut.

Demography

In the 1930 census a total of 1,065 residents were registered, of which 653 Hungarians, 392 Romanians and 20 Jews.
