Baix Penedès

The Baix Penedès comarca (administrative unit ) in the province of Tarragona of the Autonomous Community of Catalonia (Spain). The community association has an area of ​​295.37 km ² and 66,407 inhabitants (2009 ).

Location

The community association is located in the southern part of Catalonia, between Barcelona and Tarragona, it is bordered on the west by the Comarca Tarragonès, in the northwest on Old Camp in the east on Alt Penedès and Garraf and in the south on the 13 km of coastline of the Mediterranean. Together with the Comarcas Alt Camp, Baix Camp, Conca de Barberà, Priorat and Tarragonès forms the region 's territory Camp de Tarragona.

Baix Penedès is located in the southwestern part of the valley, the level of the Penedès region, which borders to the west with an area of ​​mountain ranges. In the northwest lie the mountains of the Serra del Montmell.

Economy

Inland, the population lives mainly on agriculture and the service sector. Safari Park Rioleón in Albinyana, and the Mediterranean coast with long beaches are of great importance for tourism.

Traffic

Several freeways run through the community association. The E-90 from Martorell to Lleida, the E-15 Girona- Valencia and the C-22 from El Vendrell, along the coast to Barcelona.
