Bakırçay

BW

The Bakırçay is a river in the historic region of Mysia in western Asia Minor. Caicos is the ancient name of the river Bakırçay, the Hittite name was presumably Seha. Another, older name Aduro has survived.

The sources of the Caicos are located in the west of the Temnos Mountains today Ömer Dagi, south of Balıkesir. In Livy and Pliny the landscape is called Teuthrania. The Kaïkosebenen were densely populated and very fertile. The estuary was in the Aeolis between Elaea and Pitane, in present-day Gulf of Çandarlı ( Bay of Elaea ). This was pushed by alluvial deposits far beyond.

The ancient divine personification of the river bearing the same name.
