Bala Lake

Llyn Tegid, Eng. Bala Lake is the largest natural body of water in Wales and is located on the eastern border of the Snowdonia National Park. The lake is 6.4 km long, 1.6 km wide, up to 42 m deep and is crossed by Dee. On the north side there is the nearly 2,000 inhabitants, Bala. Along the lake runs the narrow gauge Bala Lake Railway.

Llyn Tegid is notorious for sudden floods. In his deep, clear waters, pike, perch, trout, eels and occurring only here Gwyniad live.

In Welsh mythology is known as the eponymous deity of the lake the water spirit Tegid Foel. According to a local legend, there will be a monster in the lake, which denotes the Welsh national hero Owain Glyndŵr as " yellow Christians eater " and he is said to have sunk a horse before the battle of Pumlumon.
