Balabac, Palawan
Balabac is a Philippine island and municipality in the province of Palawan. It has 35 758 inhabitants ( census May 1, 2010 ). In the village there is a campus of the Palawan State University. In the island of the same shipwreck of Pandanan was discovered in 1993.
The island is in north-south direction for about 30 km, from east to west 12 km.
The municipality adjacent to the main island include other islands in the North East: Bancalan, Bugsuk, Pandanan and Mantangule, as well as in the north, separated only by a narrow strait, Ramos, a circular island of almost 6 km in diameter.
10 km to the east is the small island Lumbucan, which has a triangular shape, with the longest side is less than 2 km long. Besides Lumbucan extends Lumbucan channel.
In the south, beyond the Balabacstraße begins Malaysia.
The rare Palawan Bearded Pig lives in Balabac.
Administrative divisions
1957 Balabac was brought by a district municipality to municipality.
The municipality is divided into 20 barangays.
