Balabac Strait

Geographical location

The Balabacstraße is a strait and connects the South China Sea to the west by the Sulu Sea in the east. To the north is the Philippine island of Balabac - which belongs to the province of Palawan - and to the south the Malaysian island Banggi - which is located north of Borneo and part of the state of Sabah.

At its narrowest point, it is 49 km wide.

To the east of the road lies the Mangsee Reef ( Great Reef ) and the two islands of North and South Mangsee Mangsee.

In May 1941, the American submarine SS -183 Seal recessed in the Balabacstraße the Japanese transport ship Tatsufuku Maru (1946 t).
