Balangiga, Eastern Samar

Balangiga is a Philippine municipality in the province of Eastern Samar.

The place was the scene of an attack on the battalion stationed there, what became known as the Balangiga massacre in the history of the country during the Philippine - American War. The ensuing retaliation campaign cost 60,000 inhabitants of the island of Samar 's life and is still one of the most contentious issues between the United States and the Philippines in relation to this war.
