Baldwin VI, Count of Flanders

Baldwin VI. the Good, also called Baldwin of Mons, (* 1030, † July 17, 1070 ) was a since since 1051 as a Baldwin I, Count of Hainault and since 1067 a Count of Flanders from the House Flanders. He was the eldest son of Count Baldwin V the Pious and Adela, daughter of King Robert II of France.

Baldwin was appointed by his father to be educated at the court of King Henry III. sent, from which he was loaned to the court day of Goslar in 1045 with the Mark Antwerp ( Flanders Reich ). In 1050 he was again ordered to Flanders after his father had brought against the emperor, leading to the loss of Antwerp by itself. The following year, Baldwin was the widow of the Count of Hainault, Richilde, married, which meant for the House Flanders a considerable extension of its territory in the Reich territory. In the coming years, Baldwin assisted his father in the fight against the emperor, which was 1054 to Flanders penetrated into it. However, the fight ended in the fall of 1056 in favor of Flanders with the death of the Emperor, whereupon Baldwin with his father on the next court day after Cologne in December of mediation Pope Victor II against the new emperor, Henry IV worshiped, and thus the gain of Hainaut confirmed got.

Baldwin inherited his late father in 1067 in Flanders, making it the first time was a personal union Flanders Hainaut. He himself died in 1070 after a brief reign. III.
