Ballinskelligs Abbey

St. Michael Ballinskelligs was a priory in County Kerry in Ireland, from which to this day some ruins can still be seen near the monastery, named after the village of Ballinskelligs on the bay.

History

The monastery was probably founded in the first half of the 11th century by monks who lived before on Skellig Michael. To 1210, the monastery closed, with the support of the also located in Kerry monastery Rattoo to the Arrouaise Order, who lived according to the Augustinian rule. 1476 the value of the monastery was estimated at 50 marks. Even in 1555 the priory was unchanged Arrouaise the Medal of 1585, however, the monastery fell into the possession of John Blake.
