Ballstädt

Ballstädt is a population of 700 comprehensive village community in the district of Gotha, in Thuringia ( Gotha country). It belongs to the administrative community median Nessetal.

Geography

Ballstädt located in the Thuringian basin, on the western foothills of the Fahner heights, approximately in the middle between Gotha, Erfurt and Bad Langensalza. The nearby towns are living and Pfullendorf in the south, West Hausen in the southwest, Eschenbergen the southeast, Aschara in the northwest and Burgtonna in the north.

East of the local situation, meadows and fields stretch to the ball townspeople wood. The ball townspeople corridor is part of the watershed of the rivers Elbe and Weser. In the swampy lowlands on the southern edge of the site the Tonna springs (formerly Ballstedter water), on the western corridor limit is the source of the rare trench which opens near the church and the upper mill in the Tonna.

History

The corridor of Ballstädt was already inhabited in prehistoric times. Stray finds led to the discovery in 2003 of a cremation cemetery of the Roman Empire.

As a (secured ) first mention March 20, 1143 is called.

Economy

The economy consists only of small trades. Since 1990, there are hardly any farms. Located northwest of the village railway station is a stop of the railway line Gotha - line field, and was until 1947 terminus of the line Ballstädt - Straußfurt. Ballstädt was 2008 participants of a pilot project for the development of telecommunications technology in rural areas in November. Here, a VDSL broadband Internet access at a bandwidth of up to 50 Mbit / s was established by the telecommunications company Arcor.

Culture and sights

  • Worth seeing is the defensive tower of St. Peter's Church. She went out in 1497 with a chapel. This emerges from a mounted on the south wall of the church Tablet: On March 3, 1497 renewed Church.   • The mills: The mill-wheel in the arms draws attention to the importance of Müller craft for the village. In addition to the windmill, there was Ballstädt also three water mills. They were driven by the Tonna, a stream which rises on the southern edge of the village and a few kilometers north opens into the Unstrut. According to their location along the watercourse they were called upper, middle and lower mill. These names are still in use within the village today, even if none of the three houses, the mill facilities are maintained.
  • A few hundred meters north of the village near the brook of Tonna is a windmill. It was built in 1834 and 1933 converted from Hoheneggelsen to its present location. Every year at the German Mill Day ( Whit Monday ) it is open to the public.
  • There are foothills of the Hainich that Fahner height, with extensive mixed forests and rich flora in the area.
  • Near the church is the site of a former manor, which was in the years 1200 to 1500 owned by Herrmann and Henry of Ballstädt. After it had fallen into disrepair, it was bought in 2004 by the municipality and demolished in 2005. Only the foundation walls and basement, which were prepared roadworthy for the visitors, a reminder of the estate. The old pigeon-house was remodeled in 2006 by a new building in the half-timbered style and created a pond in front of it. On 8 September 2007, the new park area was inaugurated.
