Ballycastle, County Antrim

Ballycastle (Irish Baile an Chaisleáin ) is the administrative headquarters of the district of Moyle (English Moyle district ) in County Antrim on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland.

Ballycastle is 55 Intl. from Belfast and 27 Intl. from Ballymena and has 5089 inhabitants ( 2001). The town lies at the mouth of the River Margy (English Margy River) in the north channel. He has a small marina and an 18- hole golf course in a beautiful location by the sea.

Ballycastle is the starting point for excursions to the island of Rathlin (English Rathlin Iceland ) and the famous "Nine Glens of Antrim " (English Glens of Antrim ').

Tourist

Ballycastle Ould Lammas is known for the Fair, a 400 years ago on the last Monday and Tuesday held annually in August festival. Also known are Man ( a sweet dessert), which is sold at the Lammas Fair and dried, salty seaweed, dulse called the Yellow.

History

The Italian physicist Guglielmo Marconi demonstrated between Ballycastle and Rathlin in 1898 its new communications technology.
