Baloži

Baloži ( German rolling bush ) is a town in Latvia located twelve kilometers south of the center of Riga.

The town is on marshy area that was forested until the Second World War. The village name comes from a former forester. 1947, the peat factory Baloži was founded around which soon formed workers' settlements. In 1974, the local area has been greatly increased. On the road from Riga to Bauska the new district Titurga emerged as workers' settlement for the Baukolonne the kolkhoz of the neighboring Ķekava. 1991 Baloži was awarded city rights.

Despite public protests, the city was in 2009 in the course of administrative reform a part of the district Ķekava ( Ķekavas novads ).
