Baltistan ( "land of Balti "; بلتستان Urdu, Balti: بلتیول Baltiyul, also known as Little Tibet ) is a region of Pakistani-administered part of Kashmir region. Main town is Skardu. The mountainous region is located between Karakoram and Himalaya and forms one of the three administrative agencies of the Special Territory Federally Administered Gilgit- Baltistan, which was formerly known as the Northern Areas ( Northern Areas ). Baltistan is divided into the districts of Skardu and Ghanche:

The inhabitants are Muslim Balti, which are predominantly Tibetan, besides also of Tartar, Mon, dardischer, Indo-Iranian and Arab descent. The native language is Balti, a dialect westtibetischer.
