Baluan Island

Baluan, formerly St. Patrick Iceland, is the southernmost island of the Admiralty Islands, about 50 km southwest of the main island of Manus. Administratively, the island belongs to the province of Manus in Papua New Guinea. The Surrounded by a coral reef and covered with tropical rainforest island is the remnant of the extinct volcano of the same name.

The few villages on the island are located along the northern coast. Capital is Mok ( Mouk ). The inhabitants of the island, which is counted among the " Garden Islands of Manus ," live off the land, which is favored by the rich volcanic soil of the fishing and the sale of wood carving, which is characterized by typical for the island bird motifs.

The most famous inhabitants of Baluan Sir Paliau Moloat (1893-1991), who was elected in 1964 as a first for Manus Province in the Parliament of Papua New Guinea.
