Bana is a rural municipality in the department of Gaya in Niger.

Geography

Bana is the major landscape Sudan and to the east by the neighboring state of Nigeria. The neighboring communities in Niger are Yelou in the north, the south and Bengou Gaya in the West. The municipality is divided into eight administrative villages, 18 traditional villages, a hamlet and a warehouse. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village of Bana.

The Forêt de classée Bana is a 736 acre protected nature woodland area in the municipality of Bana. The protected status was made in 1955.

History

Bana was established in the early 17th century by some Tyenga families under their leader Abdou Bello. Tyenga are a subset of the Hausa. The administrative village in the municipality of Toungategui Bana is a Zarma - creation of the 17th century. The French colonial administration set up in the early 20th century, a canton in a Bana. The rural community Bana was founded in 2002 out at a nationwide administrative reform from the canton of Bana, the territory was divided between the rural communities Bana and Bengou.

Population

At the 2001 census, Bana had 13,293 inhabitants. For the year 2010 17.830 inhabitants were calculated.
