Banana chip

Banana chips are deep-fried and / or dried slices of banana, covered with sugar or honey. Other banana chips varieties are instead covered with chocolate salt.

Deep-fried

Usually unripe bananas are cut into slices, which are then fried in oil and then dried. Then may be not added preservative. The chips are crispy and have a sweet taste. These varieties of banana chips can be very oily because of Frittiervorganges.

Another form of fried banana chips, which are made normally in Kerala (India) and even locally upperi under the name are known to be roasted in coconut oil. Both ripe and unripe bananas are used for this form. Sometimes these forms are coated with masala or jaggery, so both sharp and sweet variants are possible. These banana chips are an integral part of the traditional Kerala meal ( Sadya '), which is celebrated during weddings and traditional festivals like Onam.

To avoid misunderstandings, it is important to understand the difference between dessert banana and plantain. In Kerala, unlike all other definitions, plantains are small sweet fruits and dessert bananas, the larger fruit. Therefore, in Kerala unripe bananas (the larger fruit) used for the production of salted and sweetened chips. Partly also ripe plantains are fried (the little sweeter fruits) to the chip.

Dried

Furthermore, there are some healthier varieties of banana chips, which are produced only by drying. Banana slices that are only dehydrated are light brown and leathery. These are very sweet and have an intense banana taste. They are ideally made from perfectly ripened bananas. To prepare banana chips you can bake banana slices in the oven too simple, and the chips thus obtained often do not taste very strongly of banana.
