The Agricultural and Veterinary University of the Banat (Romanian: Universitatea de Medicina Ştiinţe Agricole şi Veterinară a Banatului din Timişoara) was created pursuant to a Royal Decree in 1945 as a faculty of the Polytechnic University of Timişoara. In 1990 this faculty was separated and expanded to independent university with 6 faculties under the Founding Rector Prof. Paun Otiman. He was succeeded by Alexandru Moisuc. On 28 February 2012, the Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Paul Pirsan, elected as the new rector who took office on March 15, 2012.

The University is a partner in the European Research Project Biofector.
