Banco Popular Español

Banco Popular Español S. A. is a Spanish financial group, with headquarters in Madrid.

The Group consists of different companies. Below that is a national bank, the Banco Popular Español and five other regional banks, the Banco de Andalucia, Banco de Castilla, Banco de Crédito Balear and the Banco de Vasconia and Banco de Galicia. In addition, the company maintains a mortgage bank ( Banco Popular Hipotecario ) and two subsidiary banks, the one of them in France ( Banco Popular France ), the other in Portugal ( Banco Popular Portugal).

A separate Internet banking is one offered as well as other banking offices in Belgium, Chile, Germany, Hong Kong, Caracas, Morocco, Netherlands, and Switzerland (Geneva and Zurich ).

History

In 1926, the Banco Popular Español was founded. 1968 an office was opened in Paris, and from there the company expanded in France and founded another 14 branches. In 1992 a joint venture was followed by the Banco Comercial Portuguese in France, eight years later the Banco Popular Español established a network of branches in Portugal. In 2002, the Banco Popular Español and the Banco Comercial Portuguese merged. The Banco Comercial Portuguese was renamed Banco Popular France. In Portugal, Banco Popular Español bought the finance company Banco Nacional de Credito ( BNC). This then changed its name to Banco Popular Portugal.

Banco Popular was the EU's bank stress tests in summer 2012 short; the company needs to improve its capital adequacy ratio (also like many other Spanish banks). In March 2013 it was announced that the BP ( number five in terms of total assets), the smaller Banco Pastor wants to take over by means of a share swap.
