Bang Khun Thian District

Bang Khun Thian ( Thai: บางขุนเทียน, bā ː ŋ k ʰ t ʰ ǔn IAN) is one of the 50 districts ( Khet ) of Bangkok, capital of Thailand. Bang Khun Thian is a suburban district in the extreme southwest of the city.

Geography

The neighboring districts and regions are from clockwise from the north: Bang Bon, Chom Thong, and Thung Khru, in the province of Samut Prakan is the Amphoe Phra Samut Chedi, west of the coastline of the Gulf of Thailand lies in the province of Samut Sakhon of Mueang Samut Sakhon.

History

Bang Khun Thian is a very old district, which was established in 1867 as one of Amphoe Thonburi.

In 1972, the provinces of Phra Nakhon and Thonburi to " Krung Thep Maha Nakhon " were merged, thereby Bang Khae, a subdistrict of Phasi Charoen. The administrative units of the new capital were retained, only the " Amphoe " have been renamed to Khet, the Tambon to Kwaeng so Bang Khun Thian became a Khet Bangkok, consisting of the Kwaeng Bang Khun Thian, Bang Kho, Chom Thong, Bang Mot, Tha Kham, Bang Bon and Samae Dam.

As the population had grown to 1989, the Bang Khun Thian Kwaeng, Bang Kho, Bang Mot and Chom Thong has been made ​​into a new district of Chom Thong.

In 1997, was separated from the northern part of Bang Khun Thian Bang Bon and the Kwaeng made ​​to the new district Bang Bon.

Location

With Bang Khun Thian, Bangkok has the only piece of coast to the Gulf of Thailand. It is about 5 km long and consists mainly of a mangrove area. Many shrimp farms have settled here, which gradually destroy the natural protection of the mangrove belt ( see also: links).

A group of macaques (Macaca fascicularis, Thai ลิง แสม ), which feed on shrimp fishing, has settled here near a small fishing village.

The coastal area is known for its seafood restaurants.

Shopping

The Central Plaza Rama II is one of the largest shopping palaces in Thailand. From here every Saturday noon, the Ched Lake Concert ( เจ็ด สี คอนเสิร์ต ) by the TV channel BBTV Channel 7 broadcast.
