Bang Phli District

Amphoe Bang Phli ( Thai: อำเภอ บางพลี ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district ) in the Samut Prakan province, central Thailand.

Bang Phli is intended to be a part of the new province of Nakhon Suvarnabhumi, as soon as the plan was approved by the government.

Geography

The neighboring districts are Bang Na, Prawet and Lat Krabang (all Khet Bangkok ) in the north, Amphoe Bang Sao Thong and Amphoe Bang Bo in the East, and Amphoe Mueang Samut Prakan in the south and west.

Training

In Amphoe Bang Phli is the private Huachiew Chalermprakiet University. Here since 1995 also operates the Thai - Chinese International School.

Traffic

The new international airport Suvarnabhumi was opened on 28 September 2006 in Amphoe Bang Phli. It replaces the previous Bangkok Don Mueang International Airport.

Festivals

  • Bang Phli is famous for the annual Lotus Blossom Festival ( Rap Bua ), which, thus held the 14th day of the waxing moon in the eleventh month of the Thai lunar calendar on the last day of the three -month rainy season retreat ( Ok Phansa, จัด งาน ออกพรรษา ). This day normally falls on the full moon in October. A boat with a copy of the statue of Buddha Luang Poh To from Wat Bang Pli Yai drives through the main Khlong (channels) of the district. Thousands of spectators on the shore and on small boats accompanying throw lotus flowers onto the boat to offer them to the Buddha as a sacrifice to the statue is barely visible among the lotus blossoms yet.

Management

Amphoe Bang Phli is divided into six communes ( tambon), which in turn in 83 villages ( Muban ) are divided.

Bang Phli itself ( Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บางพลี ) has a small-town status ( thesaban tambon), it consists of parts of the Tambon Bang Phli Yai, Bang Pla and Bang Chao Long.
