Baranów, Greater Poland Voivodeship

Baranów ( German 1939-1943 Baranov, 1943-1945 Rundstätt ) is a village and seat of the rural community in Poland in the Greater Poland Voivodeship. The village has about 1,500, the town 7300 inhabitants. The community is located about 147 km south-east of Poznań, the capital of the Greater Poland Voivodeship. In terms of size it is the smallest municipality in the district, as measured by the number of inhabitants, the second largest after the capital Kępno.

History

Earliest evidence of human presence in today's municipal area are finds from the Bronze and Early Iron Age. These are traces of settlements and cemeteries.

Through archaeological studies have shown that there has been in the early Middle Ages, two castles in the immediate vicinity of the river Janica. Achieved in 1426 before the settlement town rights and was then fair and market town. 1532 City Council and Mayor are first mentioned in. In the course of the Second Partition of Poland Baranów fell to Prussia, under whose rule a railway line was built, but was not connected to the Baranów. This decreased the economic importance of the place, the 1907 city rights were deprived by the Prussian administration.

Partner community

Baranów has a twin town in Germany, the community Ihlow since 1997. Officially, the partnership was sealed on 14 July 1997. Since found since 1993.
