Barberton is a city in Summit County in the U.S. state of Ohio. The city has about 28,000 inhabitants. (As of the census of 2000. ) Barberton is a suburb of Akron.
History
Barberton was built in 1891 by entrepreneur O.C. Barber (1841-1920) created, who had founded in 1880 the match factory Diamond Match Company. Barber moved the seat of his company in the newly created city where the Diamond Match Company attracted many workers and so contributed to the rapid growth of the city. Parts of the factory buildings were added as Diamond Match Historic District in 1996 in the National Register of Historic Places ( NRHP) and are thus protected monument. Even today, Diamond Brands is the leading manufacturer of matches in the United States.
