Barbu Ștefănescu Delavrancea

Barbu Ştefănescu Delavrancea ( born April 11, 1858 in Bucharest ( Bucureşti), † April 29, 1918 in Jassy ( Iasi ) ), was a Romanian writer, member of the Romanian Academy ( Academia Română), orator, lawyer, politician, mayor of Bucharest and ministers. He is one of the most famous Romanian writers.

Study

The youngest son of a poor family 's last name was actually " Albu ".

To learn reading and writing, his parents gave him into the custody of a deacon of the Orthodox Church " Sf. Gheorghe Nou ". Due to his intelligence, his visit to the primary school was made possible, which he left in 1869 under the leadership of the name " Ştefănescu Barbu ". Writer

Soon after the start of the study he published his first poems in the newspaper " România Liberă ", followed by his first volume of poetry " Poiana Lunga - Amintiri ", for which he received good reviews in the magazines " Viata literara ", " România Liberă " and " Familia ". Signed, he had, in the tradition of the time, only by his first name Barbu. Now he established himself as a writer and published under the name Barbu Delavrancea. He had chosen after his beloved Vrancea region (1884 ) this name, signed initially even " de la Vrancea ". 1884, after returning from a two year stay in Paris, during which he had his legal knowledge deepened by further studies, he published one after the works Şuier, Fanta - Cella, Iancu Moroi, Răzmiriţa, Palatul de cleştar and Odinioară. Politician

His merits as a writer (1878 -1914) are undisputed, but he also emerged as a politician.

He began his activities in this regard in the " Liberal Party ", whose member he remained until 1899. He then moved to the " Conservative Party " which would later allow him the office of the mayor of Bucharest.

As mayor of Bucharest, he was famous for his clashes with the council members. Nevertheless, the capital has a lot to thank him. In his honor, numerous streets and boulevards were named in Romanian cities after him, except in Bucharest, among others, in Baia Mare, Brasov, Constanta, Cluj - Napoca, Giurgiu, Iasi, Oradea, Pitesti, Ploiesti, Satu Mare and Timişoara.
