Barda District

Bərdə, also Barda, is a rayon in Azerbaijan. Capital is the city Bərdə.

Geography

The rayon has an area of 957 km ². The landscape belongs to the lowlands of the river Kura and is drained by the Ter - Ter and Khachin. Along the Kura River lie the forests of Tugai.

Population

The rayon in 2009 had about 142,100 inhabitants. Living in the city and region because of its proximity to Nagorno-Karabakh, many refugees from the area.

Economy

The region is dominated by agriculture. It is mainly cotton, corn and wine grown and bred cattle and poultry. There is also a food processing industry, especially dairies, textile and silk production. It is mined clay and gravel.
