Bardowie Castle

Bardowie Castle is a tower house near the Scottish town of Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire. It is located east of the town on the northern shore of the small lake Bardowie hole. In 1973, the building was added to the Scottish lists of monuments in the highest category A.

Description

On the lands already existed earlier buildings of the Clan Galbraith. In the 15th century, Duncan, Earl of Lennox spoke the Clan Hamilton to the lands. A probably only a few years earlier erbauter tower was first mentioned there in 1532. In the present Bardowie Castle, the Hamiltons of Bardowie ready to put 1566, it could be an extension to this tower. It consists of rubble stone and rises from a base of 9.8 m length and 8.2 m width.
