Bargen, Schaffhausen

Bargen is a municipality in the canton of Schaffhausen in Switzerland.

Geography

Bargen is the northernmost municipality in Switzerland. It consists of the village Bargen (originally low Bargen ) and the hamlet of Upper Bargen.

Bargen is located on the Durach in the upper Durachtal to 605 meters above sea level, where the valley further branched into Hoftal and Mülital. Separately, the two valleys through the low stallion ( 746 m asl) and is adjoining Hoh stallion, with 861 m asl the highest point of the municipality and border point to Germany.

The further south Mülital is uninhabited and is bounded to the south by the Bargemer Randen ( 808.7 m asl), on its back runs the municipal border with Merishausen. In more northerly Hoftal the Gehöf upper Bargen is ( 694.6 m asl), once with an equal low Bargen settlement.

In the southeast of the municipality is located in Durachtal, on the border with Merishausen and Wiechs am Randen (municipality Tengen, Germany ) of the so-called tube (570 m asl), a trough between Bargemer Randen, Paving ( 734 m asl ) and Bohl (786 m asl). The boundary lines tangled in the hose were adjusted in two starts, most recently in 1967 during the construction of that highway N4 (now Main Street 4).

Neighboring communities of barges are Merishausen in the south, Blumberg (Schwarzwald -Baar -Kreis) in the west and to the north and Tengen ( Konstanz district ) in the east.

Bargen is connected via the main road with 4 Schaffhausen. To the north, the road reaches the village of Neuhaus am Randen (municipality Blumberg ) in Germany. Public transport uses a side street, wrong on this weekdays a bus every hour to Schaffhausen. Some courses run per day to Germany. A not-so insignificant factor in the economy barges are the three stations on the main road 4 that provide through the border near quite convenient ways to fuel tourism.

History

Bargen is first mentioned as 884 Paragen than the Hegau Count Peringer traded in his possession Merishausener against the Bargener goods of the monastery of St. Gall. Previously was Bargen from the three hamlets lower, middle and upper Bargen.

Bargen belonged to Landgraviate Nellenburg and after the founding of the monastery of All Saints in 1049 to its immunity district, who came to the town of Schaffhausen in 1451 or 1491. Most important landowners in barges were the Reds of Randenburg. 1378 Egbert sold his property in the Red Bargen and church and bailiwick of the hospital of the Holy Spirit Schaffhausen, which until 1510 continued to expand its position. The advocacies were until 1798 Schaffhausen perceived by the Reformation (upper bailiwick Merishausen ).

In Bargen is the northernmost landmark of Switzerland. About this Black Stone formerly exiled or deported were convicted of the Schaffhausen authorities to Germany.

The coat of arms of the municipality Bargen appears first on a Munizipalitätssiegel from the year 1805. Shuts The representation of freedom over a plumb line is a typical symbol of sovereignty from the time of the Helvetic Republic. Since the village had had no crest before the time of the Helvetic Republic, they kept this in even afterwards. In 1950 the coat of arms still valid at the community meeting was officially recognized.

Attractions

The nature reserve " Tannbüehl " is known for its more than 20 species of orchids (eg Lady Orchid, Fly and Bee Orchid, Lady's Slipper, etc.) that bloom there in the spring.
