Barile
Barile is an Italian town in the province of Potenza in Basilicata. In Barile vines are grown for the red wine Aglianico del Vulture.
Location and data
Barile located 44 kilometers north of Potenza. Here live 3060 inhabitants. The neighboring municipalities are Ginestra, Melfi, Rapolla, Rionero in Vulture, Ripacandida and Venosa.
History
The town was founded in the Middle Ages. At that time he was called Barrelium. In the 16th century settled here Albanian Christians ( Arbëresh ) who had fled from the Turks. This made the place the largest Albanian community in the Vulture area. 1930, the town was mostly destroyed by an earthquake.
