Barköl Kazakh Autonomous County
The Kazakh Autonomous District Barkol (巴里坤 哈萨克 自治县, Balikun Hasake Zizhixian ) was founded on October 1, 1954. It belongs to the administrative district of Hami in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China. He is in the northwest of the governmental district and has an area of 38,445.3 km ². To the north it borders Mongolia to the state, on the east by the county Aratürük, to the south by the city of Hami and the west by the Kazakh Autonomous County Mori Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture. The political, economic and cultural center Barkols is the greater community Barkol; it lies in the southeast of the Autonomous Okrug. Barkol is known for its camel and horse breeding. The Barkol Horse is famous throughout China. Because of China unprecedented large number of Bactrian camels of the circle also bears the nickname " circle of ten thousand camels ".
Administrative Divisions
The Kazakh Autonomous District Barkol consists of two large municipalities and eight municipalities:

- Greater community Burqunji (博尔 羌 吉 镇);
- Community Sar Qoke (萨尔乔克 乡);
- Community Haiziyan (海子 沿 乡);
- Community Xialaoba (下 涝 坝乡);
- Community Dahongliuxia (大 红柳 峡 乡);
- Community Baqiangzi (八 墙 子 乡);
- Community Küysu (奎苏 乡);
- Community Shirenzi (石人子 乡);
- Community Dahe (大 河乡);
- Community Huayuan (花园 乡);
- Community Santanghu (三 塘 湖乡).

At the census in the year 2000 85.964 inhabitants were counted in Barkol ( population density 2.24 inhabitants / km ²).
The end of 2003, the population had increased to about 100,100, while the share of Kazakhs dropped to 28.46%, of the Han Chinese rose to 69.74 %.
