Barnabe Rich

Barnabe Rich ( * 1540, † 1617 in Ireland ) was an English writer.

Life

Rich has long been a professional soldier ( 1562-1574 ) and began writing while in the service of the Crown in Ireland, he was still working as a spy, where he died. Rich wrote romances, in which he imitated the mincing prose style of John Lyly. His most famous work is "His Farewell to Militarie Profession" ( 1581), a collection of eight stories, one of which William Shakespeare as a source for the "Twelfth Night " was used. He wrote besides reports of Ireland, comments on etiquette, pamphlets and translations.
