Barra do Ribeiro is a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil on the Rio Guaiba. It is located about 50 km southwest of Porto Alegre. Adjacent are the places Guaiba, Mariana Pimentel, Sertão Santana, Sentinela do Sul and tapes. Originally, Barra do Ribeiro part of the municipalities Guaiba and tapes.

History

The story of the white area of Barra do Ribeiro, named for the sandbank ( Barra ) at the mouth of the river Ribeiro in Rio Guaiba, began in 1780 with the Charqueada ( production of dried meat ) by Antônio Alves Guimarães.
