Barry Jones (bishop)

Barry Philip Jones ( born September 29, 1941 in North Canterbury ) is Bishop of Christchurch.

Life

The Bishop of Christchurch, Brian Patrick Ashby, ordained him a priest on July 4, 1966 and was incardinated in the Clergy of the Diocese of Christchurch. Pope Benedict XVI. appointed him on 28 June 2006 to the Coadjutor Bishop of Christchurch.

He received his episcopal consecration of the Bishop of Christchurch, John Jerome Cunneen, on 4 October of the same year; Co-consecrators were Charles Daniel Balvo, Apostolic Nuncio to New Zealand, Fiji, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Vanuatu, Tonga, Kiribati, Palau, Cook Islands and Samoa, and John Basil Meeking, Bishop Emeritus of Christchurch.

After the retirement John Jerome Cunneens he followed this on 4 May 2007 by the ministry of the Bishop of Christchurch.
