Barry Martyn

Barry Martyn (* as Barry Martyn Godfrey, February 23, 1941 in London ) is a British jazz drummer and producer of the New Orleans Jazz.

Barry Martyn began in 1955 with the drums and led a year later his first band with the first recordings in 1959. He first visited New Orleans in 1961, studied with Cie Frazier and founded Mono Records. Martyn toured with many New Orleans musicians in Europe ( as George Lewis, Albert Nicholas, Louis Nelson, Captain John Handy ). In 1972 he moved to Los Angeles and founded Legends of Jazz. The gathered here New Orleans veterans, he toured worldwide and produced recordings. In 1984 he was back in New Orleans and gave the back catalog of Circle Records out again.

In 1976 he played with Barney Bigard. He took many on as a leader.
